Dear OHHRRN Scientists and Affiliates,

It has been a busy few months at OHHRRN preparing for year-end and our end of year three formative review. You may have noticed some of the changes to our website in anticipation of the review. I'd like to thank everyone for their contributions to the various reports this entailed. We are looking forward to the comments from our reviewers, Gilles Paradis from McGill University and Damien Contandriopolous from Universite de Montreal, which are due at the end of June.

In the issue of OHHRRNews, we are please to include updates from recently completed Applied Health Research. On page 1, we describe the continuation of the examination of the development and integration of Physician Assistants; the full report is available on the OHHRRN website. On pages 3 and 4 we provide descriptions of the evaluation of some of the changes that have come about from Bills 171 and 179 in regards to the professions of optometry, pharmacy, pharmacy technicians, physiotherapy and kinesiology as well as the new requirement to break down regulatory barriers to interprofessional practice. These reports will be available on the OHHRRN website in the coming weeks and one of our upcoming Fireside Chats will be devoted to the prescriptive privileges case studies. Many of our previously funded OHHRRN research has become available in our Working Paper series.

We have several features for students—first a call to feature HHR related theses of members as well as highlights from our OHHRRN student fellows. Our spotlight features two students new to OHHRRN.

Much of the work we do at OHHRRN dovetails nicely with the pan-Canadian HHR Network. Hence we encourage readers of OHHRRNews to visit the CHHRN website for updates and other information. We highlight in the newsletter some of the knowledge translation tools posted on the CHHRN website, e.g., the HHR Planning Toolkit developed by our colleagues in Nova Scotia.

  • We will also be holding the official launch of CHHRN Monday October 1, 2012 in Ottawa. Please mark your calendars, but invitations with be coming shortly.

In closing, I'd like to wish everyone the best for the upcoming summer months. Cheers!
