  • Project Title: Understanding policies targeting Community Health Workers/Lay Health Workers (CHWs/LHWs)/Personal Support Workers’ (PSWs) in caregiving and chronic disease prevention and management with immigrant and aboriginal populations in Ontario
  • Project Description: This project focused on understanding the legislative framework and identifying any policies about personal support workers (PSWs)/lay health workers (LHW) in caregiving and especially those targeting immigrant and aboriginal populations in Ontario This project used three research strategies: A) literature review and document analysis of published literature; B) key informant interviews with policy makers at the provincial and federal level; and, C) informal stakeholder survey with representatives from local and regional public health and primary care agencies and institutions. Through these strategies this project identified health human resources issues for PSWs/LHWs in publically funded homecare and long-term care homes, as well as in private homes. Private home care was included in the project because it arose when using the terms “immigrants” and “care workers” Status Completed between fall 2010 and spring 2011
